18. Arriving Into Presence: Guided Somatic Practice for Nervous System Regulation
If staying present feels harder this time of year, you are not alone. In this week’s episode, I break down why presence is not something you force or strive for. It is not an achievement and it is not about willpower. Presence is a physiological state that becomes available when your body is not bracing for what comes next. When your system has enough cues of safety, presence begins to happen on its own.
Inside the episode, I walk you through the science of why this works. You will learn how orienting helps the nervous system downshift, why the visual field plays such a big role in feeling grounded and what happens biologically when you give your body more information about the space around you. We also explore resource mapping, pendulation and gentle interoception, so you can understand how to work with your system instead of trying to override it.
This episode is especially supportive if you feel easily overwhelmed, overstimulated, rushed or disconnected from your body. It is for anyone whose mind is moving faster than their body can keep up with or anyone who wants a clear, simple practice to help them regulate through the holidays. The guided portion can be done anywhere your system needs a reset. In your bedroom, in the car, on a walk, or stepping outside for a few breaths between gatherings.
My hope is that this episode becomes a resource you can return to anytime you need help coming back into the moment. And as I share at the very end of the practice, even if you only feel one percent more present than you did at the beginning, that one percent matters. It is a crack in the armor. It is a doorway. It is a beginning.
If you want to listen to this week’s episode, you can find it above and below. And if someone in your life would feel supported by it, I would love for you to share it with them.
