31. Somatic Healing Isn’t a Trend: Why It’s Growing & How to Practice It Safely
Over the last decade, I’ve watched the healing landscape change in a profound way.
Conversations that once lived mostly inside therapy offices, trauma conferences, and clinical trainings are now happening in parenting spaces, workplaces, relationships, and everyday life. In this week’s episode, I explore why somatic healing and nervous system work are expanding so quickly, and why so many people are realizing that insight alone is not always enough to create lasting change.
That shift matters, especially right now.
More people are beginning to understand that anxiety, shutdown, burnout, people pleasing, and chronic overwhelm are not simply personality flaws. They are often nervous system patterns.
So when people say they feel stuck, exhausted, numb, reactive, hypervigilant, or deeply disconnected from themselves, they are not imagining it. They are living inside a culture that places enormous pressure on the body and nervous system. That is one of the reasons somatic work is resonating so deeply right now.
In this episode, I unpack the hot-button topics so many people are asking about right now, including why talk therapy can be helpful but still leave people feeling stuck, why nervous system regulation has become such a mainstream conversation, what somatic healing actually is, and why the body has to be part of the process if we want healing that is sustainable and not just intellectual. I also speak to a growing concern in the field: as somatic work becomes more popular, integrity, depth, and practitioner capacity matter more than ever.
This is also exactly why I created the Somatic Practitioner Training at the Body-First Healing Institute.
There are many excellent trainings in this field, and this program is not trying to replace any one modality. What sets it apart is that it is intentionally integrative, body-first, live, and experiential. The training combines nervous system regulation, attachment science, relational repair, and parts work into one cohesive model. It is designed for both licensed clinicians and non-licensed helping professionals, with a strong emphasis on embodiment, ethical practice, real-world application, and trauma-informed relational work.
It is also not a passive or surface-level training. The program includes five months of live training, over 100 contact hours, weekly calls, monthly supervision, peer practice, and a final case presentation. Students are asked not only to learn the material, but to live it, practice it, and build the kind of nervous system capacity that responsible somatic work requires.
If you have been curious about why somatic healing is everywhere right now, or you have felt the quiet pull to explore this work more deeply for your own life or your professional path, this episode will give you language, context, and perspective for what is happening in the field.
And if you are someone who feels called not just to heal, but to support others in healing, I also share more about the Somatic Practitioner Training and what it looks like to enter this work with depth, integrity, supervision, and embodied practice at the center.
Enrollment for the next round of the Somatic Practitioner Training at the Body First Healing Institute begins in July 2026, with enrollment open March 23 through April 1. Spots are intentionally limited to support depth and supervision within the cohort.
