37. Q&A: Building a Healing Business, Somatic Work vs Therapy & Avoiding Burnout

If you have ever wondered what it actually looks like to build meaningful work while staying connected to yourself, this Q&A episode is for you.

In this conversation, I answer some of the questions I get asked most often about how I started my business, why I chose the somatic path instead of becoming a therapist or psychologist, what I would do differently if I were starting over, how I think about building a social media presence as a practitioner, and the movement, training, and wellness practices that support me in daily life.

What I wanted this episode to offer is a more honest look at the intersection of healing and work. Not just how to build something, but how to build it in a way that your nervous system can actually sustain. We talk about the reality of those early seasons in business, the mistakes and pivots that shaped me, and why healing work asks us to stay in relationship with multiple parts of ourselves at once.

Inside the episode, I share:

  • how my coaching business looked at the very beginning and what helped me take those first steps

  • why somatic work filled a gap that talk therapy alone did not fill for me

  • what I would change if I had to start over and what matters more to me now

  • how I think practitioners can approach social media in a way that feels grounded and aligned

  • the shift I have made from rigid wellness to using movement and nourishment to support my nervous system

  • and a few updates on our Montana property

More than anything, this episode is about the kind of flexibility somatic healing can create. The ability to work with your body through stress, uncertainty, and emotion. The ability to build a life and practice that are not rooted only in pressure or performance, but in capacity, presence, and honesty.

If you have felt called to do this kind of work yourself, I also want you to know that enrollment for the Somatic Practitioner Program is open now. There is such a real need for practitioners who can help fill the gap with integrity, depth, and a body-based understanding of healing.

If you feel called to fill that gap, you can learn more about the Somatic Practitioner Program and enroll here: https://www.bodyfirsthealing.com/somatic-certificate
