44. How to Break a Nervous System Pattern Somatic Practice

Have you ever had that moment where you find yourself back in the same pattern again and immediately feel discouraged? Maybe you told yourself you would not overextend this time. You would not shut down, spiral, people please, overexplain, or go back on your boundary. And yet there you are again, wondering why this keeps happening.

What I want you to know is that repeating a pattern does not automatically mean you are failing. It does not mean you are broken, and it does not mean you have not healed. A lot of the time, it means your nervous system is still doing what it learned to do to protect you. These patterns are not just habits in the mind. They are often protective responses in the body. Your system learned that bracing, rushing, going quiet, staying in control, or leaving yourself helped you survive something once. So of course it goes back there.

This is why trying to force yourself out of the pattern usually does not create lasting change. The shift begins when you learn how to notice the pattern earlier. It begins in the moment your chest tightens, your jaw clenches, urgency rises, or you feel yourself starting to leave your body before anything has even fully happened. That moment matters. Because when you can meet that moment with awareness and support instead of shame and force, something new becomes possible.

In this week’s podcast, I talk about why nervous system patterns repeat and how to begin interrupting them in a way that is actually supportive to your body. I also guide you through a 10 minute somatic practice to help you walk through a stuck pattern in real time. If you have been feeling frustrated with yourself for ending up in the same loops, this episode will help you understand what is really happening underneath and how to start shifting it gently.

Listen to this week’s episode here and let me walk you through how to begin breaking a nervous system pattern with more awareness, support, and safety.
