25. Q&A: Nervous System Safety In Birth, Helping Kids Regulate, Co-Sleeping & Pregnancy Sensitivity
I’m really excited to talk about a topic I get asked about constantly — pregnancy, birth, and parenting through a nervous system lens. Especially the questions that come up when your body feels more sensitive than expected, symptoms resurface, or you’re trying to support a child while also tending to your own nervous system.
From a nervous system perspective, none of this means something is wrong. Pregnancy is a major physiological and emotional reorganization. Interoception increases, early attachment layers come online, and the nervous system is regulating for more than one body. When things feel louder or more activating, it’s not regression — it’s sensitivity. And sensitivity isn’t a problem to fix, it’s information asking for safety and support.
In this episode, I’m answering your questions about why symptoms can resurface during pregnancy, what actually supports physiological birth, why safety matters so much in labor, and how fear and pressure can slow the process down. I also share my personal unmedicated birth experiences, what I learned about oxytocin, safety, and surrender, and how very different births can unfold when the nervous system feels protected. We also talk about co-sleeping, co-regulation, and how to help kids regulate when you’re navigating your own triggers, with a focus on presence and repair rather than perfection.
This conversation is meant to feel grounding and reassuring. Your body is wise. Your responses make sense. And you don’t need to do this perfectly for it to be meaningful or supportive.
